Support Groups

We offer several cancer support groups and networks for our patients and their families. We've listed a few here but for more support groups in your community talk to your nurse navigator.

Support groups are an important part of recovery for cancer patients. Knowing that other people have come to terms with a similar diagnosis, meeting fellow cancer survivors, and even going through treatments with a friend can provide the emotional support patients need for recovery. Being around other cancer survivors and fighters can be hugely helpful since they understand what you're going through without explanation. If you are interested in joining a support group or survivors network please talk to your physicians and nurses.

Flying Colors

The Flying Colors Cancer Network was created in 1996 and moved under the leadership of the Baptist Cancer Center and Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation in 2012. Flying Colors' mission is to empower those touched by cancer through a buddy system, networking groups and workshops that allow them to interact with other survivors, learning what they need to know to live life to the fullest.

• The Creative Connection art-for-healing workshops
• "Lighten the Load" fund
• Lending library
• Celebrations for survivors
• Volunteer program in infusion centers

Hope Circle

HopeCircle provides a community of hope and supportive care services, free of charge, to families living with a catastrophic illness. The Resource Center offers patients a non-threatening environment where they can receive an afghan, wig, cap, or other items, browse the lending library or visit with staff or volunteers.

Volunteer opportunities include: assisting in the Resource Center or treatment room; knitting, crocheting, baking or sewing; assisting at special events. A youth volunteer program (HopeBuilders) empowers young people in grades 1-6 to make a difference in the lives of others through various community projects.

Special Events include: Hope Week, Look Good, Feel Better; an annual Grief Conference; Fundraising events; Cancer Survivors Day.
